The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Debuts, Introducing Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo and Illumination shared the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. This occurred during a Nintendo-focused broadcast that highlighted the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the far corners of the galaxy. In his journey, he meets a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
An Interstellar Journey Based on Iconic Releases
In the vein of the games from the Wii period that serve as its inspiration, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, such as the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also features references to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Returns and Expands
The movie will feature once again of the initial voice actors, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
Mario's Major Moment
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut close to the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo confirmed a trio of new releases already confirmed for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
